Feeding the Hungry in Amarillo, Texas

Christian Heritage Church Is “Building a City of Refuge”
Written by: Robyn Keeler

If you visit the website of Christian Heritage Church in Amarillo, Texas, you will see these words: “We welcome you to discover the true refuge… Jesus Christ – Savior and King – and then join us in building the vision by which all can run to the City of Refuge.”

As part of living out this vision, last year Christian Heritage Church fed 47,438 meals to homeless people. Their feeding ministry operates seven days a week. One major source of funding comes from church members willing to stand on street corners with buckets and collect money over a weekend.

Recently an optometrist who had discovered the efforts of the church to assist those less fortunate called to offer services to men in the church discipleship house that helps men coming out of prison and off the streets. They have already scheduled one of the men for a free eye exam.

These and other ministries are part of putting the church’s philosophy into practice: “turning failures to success through evangelization, participation, celebration, and equipping in an atmosphere of love, acceptance, and forgiveness.”
