A Texas ‘Welcome Home’

It is Thursday night, 11:00 pm on December 23rd in the 30’s and the wind is howling, but we have a soldier coming home! Sgt. Tommy Srader, raised at Christian Heritage Church was coming home for Christmas. He has just finished a nine month tour including Guam and Jordan, a joint effort in training soldiers.

We got our flags out – stretched out our banner and a young Mom approached with tears in her eyes, “My son is coming in on the same plane from Afghanistan; could you welcome him?”  We eagerly agreed and stood awaiting their appearance.

First came Tommy, cheers, clapping of hands and ‘Welcome Home’ were all in order. The other Mom waited, jumping up and down, tears running; anxious is a poor word to express her feelings. Finally, a young man dressed in camouflage walked through and again the noise – the excitement! We let the family do the hugs and kisses, mingled with tears. Then we called the two men over and thanked them for their service in the military and had a prayer of thanksgiving for bringing them home safely.

That is the Christmas spirit at Christian Heritage Church and Hard CORE M/M – it does not get any better.
