A war hero, a young man and in many ways still a kid, walks into the terminal with a smile as big as the state he is from, Texas. SPC Jacob Scott Frederiksen arrived in Amarillo, TX on January 18, 2011 to a terminal full of family, friends and patriots.
SPC Frederiksen finished up a career in the Army that began when he was just 17 years of age. A career that included his last tour of eight months in the hottest spot in Afghanistan where 11 of his buddies were lost was over. Mission: M25, Hard CORE Motorcycle Ministry, America Supports You, a city commissioner and a television station were all waiting. Large flags on 6’ poles and banners (“Churches of America Thanks You For Serving” from M25) made up a line for this hero to pass.
After some tearful hugs with family members, SPC Frederiksen was greeted by Jack Barnes, president of America Supports You, who presented him a challenge coin, tee shirt ,and a steak dinner provided by Texas Roadhouse. M25 Director, Gary Burd, was given the honor of praying a prayer of thanksgiving for bringing him home safely and of protection on those he left behind. After some interviews and more hugs and shouts, we all mounted our motorcycles and got in our cars and escorted SPC Frederiksen across town with flashers running. It is awesome to be Jesus in body form to these young men and women.
After it was all over, we spoke of the memories that this young man, a kid really, will have to deal with the rest of his life while we go about our daily life, never really touched by the raging war our young men and women are fighting. May God stir our hearts to do more to lift these young warriors in our prayers and express appreciation at every opportunity.
