Candlelight Vigil Bakersfield, California

Cross Roads To Recovery in Bakersfield CA on May 7, 2011 held a ‘Candle Light Vigil’ for the 1114th Transportation Division of the National Guard who will be deployed to Afghanistan in December 2011.

Two families where given plaques who had lost their son’s in Iraq. All veterans present were given certificates and honored during the evening. There was a full slate of events that ended with a prayer vigil where candles where placed in ‘sandboxes’ to represent the men and women who have served, are serving and those going to serve in our military forces on the War on Terrorism. The church, pastored by Billy and Debbie Woods has been asked to adopt the 1114th during this trying time. They will be the ‘Family Readiness Team’, meaning they will send them off, care for their families during their absence and do things such as have a Christmas party for the children to help ease the pain of a parent serving during the war. The local JROTC participated by posting the colors and were involved in the overall evening.
