Run for the Wall 2011 Day 9 05/26/2011

A short day of riding but a full day of passing the mantle — what do I mean, it was a day of mixing grade school kids with men and women who were at least Patriots, most are veterans. It was a great time, even thought the business at hand kept me for seeing a whole lot of stuff.

We were blessed to have Col Shalom from Israel address the crowd. He really did an outstanding job of promoting RFTW Israel. The people were cheering and committing to go with us. It was absolutely outstanding. I believe we are going to see the registration really climb after today.

We ended the day with a meal at a Veterans Nursing home in Salem, VA – it was so moving watching the people interact with those that have been forgotten by so many. Pastor Kevin even fulfilled a promise to a teacher to go see her 90 year old dad. Kevin came back so blessed and excited.

A few of the pictures posted include Spence – I rode all day yesterday for his friend Dave Fitzgerald  who was killed coming to RFTW, and I’m also including a picture of our team at the awards banquet that went forward for our ‘rockers’. There is also a picture of the Chaplains that rode at the back all the way across the country. And finally, I have included a picture of the men who drove the Merchandise truck, Chase truck and Advance truck. I have never been as happy about serving with a team as I was at the end of this journey.

We are leaving tomorrow morning for Washington DC – we are to assemble at 5:15 a.m. and ride over to the meeting. If everything goes right – we should arrive around 2 p.m. I will post more on the story line tomorrow. I am exhausted but excited. God has shown Himself so strong.

Thanks for following our post and please keep us in prayer through the weekend.

Shepherd, Gary Burd
