CrossRoads Church of Petersburg, VA, recently to action and exemplified the scripture found in Matthew 5:16 “…let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
On Monday, August 1st, they welcomed the group from Dublin, Virginia who had come to do a home missions trip and serve for the week. In the afternoon, they shared a great cookout and spent time getting to know one another.
On Tuesday morning, volunteers stood outside one of the gates at Fort Lee at 7:30am welcoming soldiers onto the base with flags and displaying a banner that read “Churches of America Thank You For Serving.” Afterwards, they traveled back to Crossroads to prepare a meal for the hungry in Petersburg. At noon, meals were fed in the inner city. Later that evening , the group met back over at Redemption Ministries to spend 3 hours in prayer for Free Camp.
On Wednesday morning (August 3rd), all volunteers were buzzing around getting ready for the campers, who arrived at 1:00pm for Free Camp! Over the 4 days, children participated in solar cooking, messy games, a tae kwon do demonstration, a bonfire, homemade ice cream, a visit from the Petersburg Sheriff and Prince George Fire Chief (who brought along a fire truck for some fun in the water cannon), a talent show, lots of bible lessons, arts and crafts, and plenty of JESUS! Overall, there were about 50 volunteers, 70 campers and many lives changed for His glory. This year brought more partnerships from the community than ever before.
CrossRoads Church ministers through FREE CAMP to breaks down all social and economic walls; the camp say children come from 1/2 million dollar homes sleeping alongside children from the poorest parts of Petersburg…and no one knew the difference, as they were all shown the love of Jesus. Planning has already started for next year!

We pray His blessing upon all He has trusted you with. Thankful for the gift of YOU and your lovely wife.”
