Free Camp Gives Kids a World-Class Experience

They may be young, but they’ve already traveled the world. This summer, nine-year-old Delilah went to China; her 11-year-old sister, Lily, visited Mongolia.  And they did it all without leaving the U.S.

Delilah (left) and Lily (right) said Free Camp was a great summer experience.

Delilah and Lily attended Free Camp in Amarillo, TX, where this year’s theme was Pandamania. Youth broke up into “camps” that represented countries in Asia.

Nearly 200 children attend the annual camp, which seeks to eradicate injustice by providing a free camp experience to children of any race, gender, athletic ability, and income level.

Free Camp was started by Christian Heritage Church over 20 years ago. The event has become so popular that Free Camp has been launched in multiple locations across the U.S., including Arizona and North Carolina.

Campers enjoyed outdoor games and arts & crafts, as well as a visit to a local water park and pool.  “My favorite part was when we got to sing and dance,” said Delilah, referring to evening worship services.

Although the camp is meant to be fun, the main focus is to remind children that they are all free in Christ.  Many of the children who attended accepted Christ during the camp. “I liked the lessons a lot,” said Delilah. “I saw lots of people get saved.”
