Day 1: Preparing for the Run

Run For The Wall is a yearly motorcycle ride from California to Washington, DC in honor of military POWs and MIAs. Mission:M25, the IPHC’s ministry to non-traditional people groups, is deeply involved in RFTW. They minister through chaplaincy appointments and their hydration trailer. This year, M25 leader Gary Burd is also the lead chaplain for RFTW’s Southern Route. Gary will provide daily updates as they travel across the country for the next two weeks.

The Mission

Before the sun broke you could hear the rumble of the Harley Davidson motorcycles. Hundreds of bikes roared into the parking lot awaiting the departure of Run For The Wall 2010.

Mission:M25 was prepared and awaiting the command to depart. The team this year has four senior pastors, an active duty naval chaplain, active duty National Guard soldier, National Royal Ranger Commander, evangelist, lay leaders, and two young men ready to serve. We are from seven states and five conferences.

Our ”mission trip” of service to the real heroes of our nation, men and women who have put it on the line for our freedoms, will last 12 days. We will end on Memorial Day in Washington, DC. We have already handled over 10,000 bottles of water, sport drink and specialty drinks. We also have two pallets of snacks, fruit and carrots. Men and women hit the hydration trailer at every fuel stop for the much needed refreshments.

The Team

We have eight chaplains on the run serving from the front to the very end of the pack. What a great sight it is to see Mission:M25 being given the opportunity to serve! We are eager for each day to arrive to see what we can do for those we honor so much.

We sat after devotion tonight and spoke of the “divine appointments” we had today. Although the run had not officially started, there were countless opportunities for us to minister to and pray with those in need. God is so good to us.

Our banner this year is full! What an awesome sight! We have a good space that is for those who gave in “Honor” or in “Memory” of some soldier. Thanks to all of you who made this possible.

The Run officially began on Wednesday morning, May 19. Please pray for safety as we travel from California to Washington, DC to honor these great men and women who serve in our military. And if you see us on the road, give us a wave!

For the Least of These,

Gary Burd
